After a great warm sunny day of skiing at Sugarbush Allaine picks me up from the mountain with some news. After some casual conversations with a local real estate agent he sent her information about a piece of land that just went on the market by Blueberry Lake. Should we look? We decide why not and after a short 10 minute ride we find a real estate sign in front of a wooded lot. We end up meeting a local building who is building a home on a neighboring lot. He is familiar with the vacant lot for sale so he agrees to give me a tour. We trudge through over a foot of melting snow. The lot is full of beautiful old trees and distant mountain views. The building area is pretty flat and the future driveway is partially cleared. It doesn’t take long to realize this is a special piece of property.
We take a drive around the surrounding area. We find that Blueberry Lake where last summer we spent a quiet afternoon enjoying the amazing views was right across the street. The mountain bikes trails we rode last summer were also just down the road.
On the ride back towards town we talk and decide we should go talk to the listing agent. We meet with a great real estate broker who is very helpful and willing to answer all of our questions. Next thing I know we are making a full price offer. At this point we have no idea what it would cost to develop the lot into our home.
That evening we receive all of the documents to make our offer official. Allaine signs right away but I have to sleep on it. The next morning I realize if we don’t take a chance on this we might regret it forever. Now the waiting begins….
Crazy part with real estate is just because you offer the full amount that might not be good enough. So three days of waiting to hear if our offer is accepted. Friday morning we get a text from the broker asking to give him a call. Here we go. The broker says congratulates your offer has been accepted! Now a new unexpected journey begins….
